As we all know, students will be taking the Florida Standards Assessments and will demonstrate their proficiency levels on the State Assessment. My goal is to target my students' areas for growth and convert those areas for growth into strengths. Throughout our journey into rising to the challenges, students are learning how to investigate a topic by collecting, generating and evaluating evidence; and establishing a position on the topic in a concise manner. Students will learn how to write an argumentative essay that is based on close reading and analysis of relevant sources. Students will learn how to make a precise claim and organize their essay to support their claim in a logical manner. As we move into the argumentative essay genre of writing, students will be reading three texts on labor strikes and write an argumentative essay on whether or not public service workers should have the right to strike. I have attached the unit onto this email that we will be utilizing in class for your reference.
We will be using a Writing Guide for essays in class and review the citing sources strategy. Students should keep all of their writing resources and guides in their duo-tang folder for my class. The digital copies of these writing resources are on the writing link in my website for your reference and in case students misplace the copy they receive in class. Students should bring a flash drive to class daily; although they may not be used every day, they need to be available for when students need to use them. Additionally, students need colored pencils or thin markers to use during writing for the purpose of underlining different components of their essays. We will be reviewing the FSA scoring sampler essays that students should have readily available this week. Please encourage your child to keep their school supplies organized in an effort to ensure success. It is imperative that students are prepared and ready to learn.
I am extremely proud of all of my students as they have responded well to instruction and learning. Thank you in advance for your continued support in your child's education.
